Triops - Longicaudatus, Cancriformis, Newberryi at Triops King

What are triops? Triops are a species of Tadpole Shrimp! There are various Tadpole Shrimp, such as Salt Shrimp, Fairy Shrimp, Mussel Shellers or even Triops. One could say that Triops are Tadpole Shrimp with shells. Triops live in fresh water. The natural habitat of the triops are pools of water and puddles, which are usually formed by seasonal rain showers and flooding. Triops are very interesting, grow at an amazing speed and that's not the only reason why they are so popular with young and old. Due to their very frugal nature, they are not only inexpensive but also easy to care for. In a period of four to eight weeks you can see a whole generation of Triops grow, which develops from a tiny nauplii to a full-grown prehistoric-looking animal. The life expectancy of Triops is between 30 and 90 days. Triops have lived on our planet since the time of the dinosaurs, which is why they are often referred to as dinosaur crabs. The Triops living today, or technically also called Tadpole Shrimp, is morphologically unchanged from the one from prehistoric times. Our Triops eggs do not come from wild stocks, but are bred in aquariums, because nature and the continued existence of Triops are very important to us, which is why we ask you not to look for Triops or other Tadpole Shrimp in nature and dig up their Triops eggs there.

How can I breed Triops?

Breeding Triops is fun for the whole family. In the following we will show you in a very simplified way how you can breed Triops. It doesn't matter whether you want to breed Triops Longicaudatus, Cancriformis, Newberryi or any other type of Triops, the basics are the same. You take a container that has a volume of one to five liters of water. You fill this with water. Then you can put the egg-sand mixture with the Triop eggs into the filled container. It is important that you use a lamp and that the temperature suits the species of Triops. For example, Triops Longicaudatus need about 25° Celsius. In order to be able to maintain the right temperature range, you may need a heating element or a heating mat. You can use an LED lamp or a normal light bulb as the light source.

Are Triops suitable for children?

The main advantage of triops is that they don't live that long. Some would see this as a disadvantage, but Triops' short lifespan makes them very suitable as first pets. The children can gain their first experience of responsibility and care. In this way, the parents can later decide whether the child is mature enough to have a real pet. The investment outlay is also very low at Triops. You can buy a breeding set for as little as $ 14.99. Breeding Triops is also very exciting for children. You see and experience something that you have certainly never experienced before, you see animals that have lived on our earth millions of years ago. The little ones can't stop being amazed.
