Triops Granarius Tadpole Shrimp Starter Kit
The Triops-species with the widest dispersion is the Triops Granarius. He has settled on three continents worldwide. Apart from Europe and Africa, it also resides in Asia. It is also called Japanese Tadpole Shrimp. He adapts to climatic conditions very well. Thus, it is possible for them to live at temperatures of 22°C up to 27°C.
A grown-up Triops Granarius can measure up to ten centimeters in rare cases. The norm, however, lies at five to eight centimeters in length, including its tail fork. They are, therefore, considered a rather large Tadpole Shrimp. On his shell, there is a tabby light brown pattern. The basic color of this Triops-species is brown. The Granarius males are dark brown, the females are slightly lighter. Females can also be distinguished by their egg sacs, in which they carry the Triops-eggs.
Triops Granarius are gonochorists. This means that both sexes are needed to get hatchable Triops-eggs. The proportion of male Granarius is 40% and, thus, much higher than in other Triops-species. However, this high percentage of males is highly necessary as the females can lay only unfertilized eggs. In order for those eggs to become hatchable, the males need to fertilize them.
